Josip GLAURDIĆ is the President and Executive Director of ESILUX. He is a Full Professor of Political Science at the University of Luxembourg, with internationally recognised expertise in democracy, governance, conflict, and European affairs.
His research focuses on the long-term interaction between democratic institutions and security outcomes, particularly how legacies of war, political violence, and democratic deficits shape electoral competition, accountability, and state capacity in Europe. As Principal Investigator of the ERC-funded project Electoral Legacies of War, he has led large-scale, methodologically rigorous evidence-based research combining historical analysis, quantitative data, and policy-relevant interpretation.
His work has been published in leading journals in comparative politics, international relations, and conflict studies, and has directly engaged debates on democratic resilience, human security, and post-conflict governance.
Beyond academia, he has extensive experience engaging policymakers and international stakeholders, including service on NATO-related advisory bodies and participation in European and regional research and policy forums addressing democracy and security challenges. He earned his PhD in political science from Yale University in 2009.
